Ever year we carry part of my collection to the grounds of the Alamo. Visitors from around the world stop by and are asked to sign the Come and Take It flag. This was the battle flag carried by the brave men from Gonzales who fired the first shot for Texas Independence.
We have collected over 10,000 signatures on our flags here at the Alamo.
Children from all over the U.S. and across the world dream of cowboys and a chance to touch and feel a part of Texas history.
Immortal Thirty-two
The men from Gonzales know as the Immortal Thirty-two were the only ones to answer Travis' call for aid at the Alamo. George Davis knew these men, two were family and twenty five were listed in the Gonzales Mounted Volunteer Ranging Company appointed by Davis. You are not interlopers or intruders on the rich inheritance of liberty; your share of these rights, were bought and nobly paid for by the blood and toils and suffering of more than one ancestor. Your Ancestors in the first place have been long on the soil contributing to them, subduing the wilderness and the early settlement of the country bearing all the toils and hardship natural to such enterprises. And when the great war for liberty was commenced sacrificing every comfort and convenience and cheerfully taking up arms for the great cause, never ceased nor quit until the great work was accomplished and this country saved. ( G.W.Davis Memoirs)
